Dear Spectrum Parents and Friends,
You may not consider on a daily basis what a unique place Spectrum has in the educational world. The “progressive” core of our identity may not be obvious to you in the day to day routines and challenges of getting from here to there. However, day after day our teachers are paying attention to who your children are, how they learn, what an amazing individual each is, and preparing and implementing learning opportunities and challenges that are relevant and important to the children.
You may not consider how much “easier” or “less demanding” teaching is when you follow a cookie cutter program or pre-ordained scope and sequence, or following behavior policies that blame the child or parents for issues and simply sanction or punish.
Spectrum has been choosing and offering a different way year after year, and your sacrifice to send your child here is deeply appreciated. However, tuition is not enough to meet the fiscal needs of our school.
For transparency’s sake, you will also be receiving a letter regarding the Spectrum Annual Campaign and information about Empower Illinois. With these efforts and our Board fundraiser(s), we hope to not only end the year in the black, but build a financial model that can be sustained into the future. This includes creating an endowment, having a system for matching gifts, encouraging capital gain tax giving, and finding business sponsors for future innovations.
Your support is critical in this effort. Our teachers and staff accomplish little educational miracles every day with the children we serve. Please give generously and as you can.
