Letter from the Board: Sept. 20, 2019

Spectrum Family and Friends,

On behalf of the Spectrum Board, I’d like to welcome everyone to the 2019-2020 school year. As
we look back, it’s amazing to see how far we’ve come in such a short period of time. The efforts
of our Principal, Dr. Mary Beth Cunat, as well as her staff and teachers have energized Spectrum and
are showing no signs of stopping! The direction of the school is unmistakable, and that direction is
FORWARD! And not just forward, but full steam ahead as well.

When Mary Beth joined us last year, she had a daunting task. Our school had gone through
several challenges in the years prior and we were asking her to lead us in a time of many
changes and uncertainties. Mary Beth was up to the challenge. Her endless energy and nonstop
pace made her a perfect fit to lead Spectrum. This year, the only uncertainty in the air is what
learning paths our students will find themselves on as they return to their classrooms.

One program I am particularly excited about is our new Volunteer Program. Spectrum has
always been a family environment in many ways. Family volunteers support school programs,
assist staff, and most importantly, help enhance the experience that every child has at Spectrum.
This year, we are rolling out a program designed to help everyone find a way to help that fits
them and helps the school maintain that family environment we have always been so proud of
at Spectrum.

As President of the Board, I would like to take a moment to give a heartfelt THANK YOU to the following people:

  • Our outgoing President, Melissa Prete. Your service and leadership has made a lasting difference at Spectrum.
  • Our Board members, (especially retiring members) as well as our entire Spectrum School staff, top to bottom. Without your dedication, exhaustive efforts, and continued hard work, Spectrum wouldn’t be the wonderful place that we all love.
  • To our students and families, welcome to another school year. Whether this is your first year at Spectrum or your last, you ARE Spectrum. Know that you are all part of an amazing tradition of education, enlightenment, and growth that will be a memorable and valuable part of your life.

As I’ve said to my own daughter so many times, thank you for allowing us to be a part of your adventure.

Charles Barnes
Spectrum Board President 2019-2020
