It is important for children to realize they can make a positive difference in the world, in both little and big ways. Connecting children with the community by doing projects, providing service, or learning from an expert all help increase the relevance of learning for the child. It is our goal at Spectrum that every student has a formal opportunity at some point in their career to be a learner in the world “outside” of school – that they learn to network, ask questions, observe, and even solve problems facing the community.
