At the last Spectrum School Board meeting, member Susan Sunday argued the fact that Spectrum CAN compete with free. We bring the best of Montessori, gifted, IB, world language, and arts education, and integrate those approaches in ways that are relevant and meaningful for the children in front of us. We can be as outdoors as we want, and go as deep and broad as we think we can take our students, without obligation to external “standards” or programmatic mandates. Children often lead the way through their interests, curiosity, and passion.
I am not sure how many parents understand how truly unique Spectrum is. During National School Choice Week this week, students and teachers have shared with each other what they love about Spectrum. Parent members of the Board last night talked about why they have their children here and how grateful they are for what our school brings their children.
What is Spectrum Progressive School to you? More than a stop gap to the next thing, I hope.
We do not want enrollment challenges to stem from a lack of understanding or appreciation on the part of our current parents for progressive education. We hope PreK parents will take a deep look at how amazing our Early Elementary experiences are, and stay. We want Early and Intermediate students to matriculate up and through all the years and offerings.
What we nurture is important. Creativity, fun, problem solving, critical thinking, collaboration, caring, community, literacy, numeracy. I am amazed at the growth I have seen in children this year. Please celebrate your children with us.
