Since so much of the curriculum and instructional approaches at Spectrum School are highly individualized, it is important that students are assessed on what they have been learning rather than a standardized, one-size-fits-all assessment. We want to measure students against their own goals within a framework of allowing them to develop at their own pace. We want them to be compared to themselves, not others. However, we believe over time that this personal approach to assessment results in higher performance. Feedback and reflection are critical to this process. Students understand who they are as learners, and how they learn best. Students take responsibility for their learning because personal approaches to assessment help them understand their strengths as well as next steps.
